ABOUT US
The Association of Volunteers developed as a source to give “tender loving care” to children at the Convalescent Hospital for Children was founded in 1964. Over the years much has changed in the world of medicine, but the Association of Volunteers mission has remained the same: provide funds for innovative programs, research, equipment and capital improvements to improve the quality of care for its patients.
The Cincinnati Antiques Festival, now celebrating its 44th year, is the main fund-raiser sponsored by the Association of Volunteers and produced by its all volunteer committee. The first Festival raised $4,000 and today will raise funds exceeding $100,000 while providing our tri-state community a unique and special four day event. The Association of Volunteers has donated $3,650,000 to the Convalescent Hospital for Children and continues this year with another commitment.
The 2008 Antiques Festival will support the Association of Volunteers newest commitment of $360,000 to the Division of Occupational and Physical Therapy at the Medical Center for the purchase of a pediatric Locomat. A Locomat is a high tech gait trainer which looks like a tread mill but supports the body weight of the child who cannot support himself and will improve and help relearn walking skills. It offers an innovative new form of treatment for children with a variety of disorders such as cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and stroke. The Association is pleased to purchase this unique piece of equipment, one of three in the United States and will dedicate the funds from the next three Antiques Festival to this project.
The past several Antiques Festivals contributed over $450,000 to Project SEARCH, an innovative program created at the Convalescent Hospital dedicated to helping people and businesses overcome barriers to successful employment and providing training and employment for persons with special needs. Project SEARCH is nationally recognized as the model for preparing qualified persons with disabilities for employment and advocating for their employment needs. This program has been replicated across the United States and in several countries. The Association is proud to have been part of this program.
The Association of Volunteers has been successful thanks to the generous support of its patrons, sponsors and dedicated volunteers. We appreciate the generosity of those who have supported our mission.
